About Tech Against Terrorism
Tech Against Terrorism enables the global technology sector to effectively tackle terrorist use of the internet whilst respecting human rights. We focus on smaller tech platforms who might not have capacity or capability to respond to this threat without support. We work closely with the United Nations, large tech firms, dozens of smaller tech platforms, democratic governments, and civil society. Currently, we are working on expanding our work with a number of commercial and publicly funded projects.
The role
Tech Against Terrorism is looking to recruit a Manager for its Open Source Intelligence Team (OSINT Manager).
As Tech Against Terrorism's OSINT Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to disrupt terrorist activity online by leading our threat intelligence and briefing efforts through the responsible collection, analysis, and dissemination of open source intelligence. You will lead a team of skilled OSINT analysts and collaborate with various teams to provide critical insights and intelligence to our internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and tech platforms.
Please note that the role involves the viewing and handling of graphic and/or otherwise disturbing content on a regular basis. Previous experience in working with graphic or disturbing content is essential. Tech Against Terrorism offers support to mitigate the risks and effects of the work, incl. professional psychosocial support.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Manage a team of OSINT analysts, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure the successful execution of projects and initiatives.
- OSINT Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive OSINT strategy to support our organisation's objectives and projects to disrupt terrorist activity online.
- Information Collection: Oversee the collection of open-source intelligence from various online sources, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
- Threat Analysis and Reporting: Lead the analysis of OSINT data to provide actionable insights, trends, and reports to stakeholders.
- Tool and Technology Management: Stay updated on the latest OSINT tools and technologies, ensuring the team is equipped with the best resources and adapting our internal operational procedure as necessary.
- External communication and stakeholder engagement: Lead TAT’s engagement with relevant external stakeholders including governmental bodies and tech platforms. Represent TAT at high-level industry events and forums as a subject matter expert.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other teams in TAT and the senior leadership team to ensure OSINT findings support decision-making processes and inform our wider stakeholder engagement efforts.
- Training and Development: Foster a culture of continuous learning and development among the OSINT team to grow and advance their skillset.
Requirements
- Degree in a relevant field (for example CT, Cybersecurity, Intelligence)
- Proven experience in OSINT work and working with graphic or otherwise disturbing material
- Experience in managing a team
- Strong understanding of terrorist propaganda dissemination strategies through online platforms and spaces
- Understanding of operational security and data protection principles, as well as of legal and ethical considerations in CT and OSINT operations
- Strong knowledge of best practice OSINT methodologies and tools and techniques
- Strong knowledge of right-wing and Islamist terrorist entities and propaganda
- Proficiency in data analysis and data visualisation tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including gin intelligence writing and the ability to confidently represent TAT at high-level events and towards stakeholders
