Business Development Manager – Business DevelopmentA quick Q/A with Business Development Manager, Matt Hardy
What’s your role at QuantSpark and where do you sit within the organisation?
I am currently a Talent Manager for QuantSpark, I’m primarily focused on helping the business attract a wide array of highly skilled individuals, while also working to further develop the culture and diversity at QuantSpark.
What did you do before you worked at QuantSpark and where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Before QuantSpark I worked in external recruitment for around 3 years and ran a successful community, specialising in JavaScript and Python. I loved external recruitment but I always knew I could bring so much more to the table if I worked for one sole business.
In 5 years I’m really not sure where I’ll be, I’ve always had a desire to build my own business but I also love what I currently do. Hopefully I’ll find a middle ground in between!
What do you love about your job?
I love that my job is all about people and just specialising in the sole subject of people’s careers. It’s one of those professions which you think that ‘everybody knows what direction they can take in their career’ but in reality, a lot of people won’t even consider other ways in which their skills can be useful to a business, or they’ll pass on applying to jobs if they don’t fit the job description 100%. I think being able to coach people on that confidence that they do have lots to offer a business and helping them land a job they never expected is extremely fulfilling!
Who have you learnt the most from at QuantSpark so far? What have you learnt from them?
This is way too hard to choose from as you end up leaning all sorts from everyone at QuantSpark. I’m fortunate enough to get to work alongside all the department heads and SLT at QuantSpark so I feel like I’m constantly learning something new.
What advice would you give to someone on their first day at QuantSpark?
Get stuck in, this is a business where everyone wants to constantly improve and grow. No idea is too big or too small and the SLT are always wanting to hear ways that we can become more efficient and better as a business.
