Daniel Pearce
Principal Analytics Engineer – Analytic EngineeringA quick Q&A with Principal Analytics Engineer, Daniel Pearce
What’s your role at QuantSpark and where do you sit within the
organisation?
I’m a Principal Analytics Engineer and I head up the Analytics Engineering team, which sits within the Engineering function.
What did you do before you worked at QuantSpark and where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I kick-started my career in the Life Sciences working as a technician in a genetics lab. Realising the lab coat life wasn’t for me, I did an MSc in Data Analytics, followed by a year at Tesco as a Data Scientist. I was lucky enough to join QuantSpark in 2019 as an Analyst, and have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and variety of consultancy work. I’d like to be doing more of the same in 5 years’ time.
What advice would you give to someone on their first day at QuantSpark?
Make the most of every opportunity you’re given and don’t be afraid to try new things. There’s plenty of opportunities to learn new skills here, you just need to be willing to push beyond your comfort zone.
Who inspires you?
David Goggins AKA The Toughest Man Alive. He’s pretty intense, bordering on terrifying, but I find his attitude towards challenge really inspiring. He’s also done some outrageous things like 135-mile ultramarathons and 24hr pull-up challenges.
What was the last thing you read?
Open: An Autobiography by Andre Agassi. I’m a big tennis fan, so really enjoyed reading about his rise to the top, and the many highs and lows he experienced along the way.
