Analytics Engineer – Analytic EngineeringA quick Q/A with Analytics Engineer, Arianna Fischer
What’s your role at QuantSpark and where do you sit within the organisation?
I’m currently a mid-level Analytics Engineer—what we call an AE3 here— on the Analytics Engineering team. The team is a mix of engineers with a variety of related skills, from data engineering to model engineering. Currently, I work more as a data engineer, though I’d love to learn more about modelling too!
What did you do before you worked at QuantSpark and where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
After getting my degrees in Maths and Philosophy, I worked for nearly two years at a digital marketing performance agency in London as a data engineer. I built API integrations both for internal and client projects, and I helped create campaign performance, SEO, and general web performance dashboards for our clients.
5 years is a long time and a lot can happen in them, so it’s hard to imagine! I think for now, I’d like to keep building my technical skills and collaborate with others on meaningful projects while learning and sharing knowledge amongst colleagues.
What do you love about your job?
I love that I can truly be a generalist here! There are many different areas in which to expand into as an Analytics Engineer, and each offers great opportunities. I also really appreciate how helpful, talented, and dedicated people are here!
How would your 10-year-old self-react to what you do now?
I suppose my 10-year-old self would not really know what it is that I’m doing now! I only started getting more into data & software engineering during my university days. However, she’d probably think it cool that we became a woman in STEM!
Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?
Probably the Pacific Northwest, where I spent my undergraduate days at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. I left in April 2020, when lockdowns just started, so I left in quite a hurry and I really miss many people over there. There’s also some great hiking and climbing to do near Vancouver!
